Moving to word press and Why I love being a Dad.

When time permits, everything will be moved over to WordPress. My good buddy and fellow d-dad has taken on the task, and I’m very much at a loss for words as to my appreciation for that. The reasons are many for the move, but I won’t bore you with the gory details. However, I will leave you with a story, a story that typifies why I write this blog.

This story is about my three girls and how much they mean to me. I love being a dad! It’s hard! It’s rewarding! Having two young girls with Type 1 Diabetes adds a whole other dynamic, see previous 50 or so blog posts for the reasons why. But I can tell you I love being a dad.
To say I’m a bit pragmatic, is an understatement. To say I’m eclectic, well that is drawing from some good sources of data. To say I find a way to make that work, is a complement ill take. I do, however, live by a higher set of standards, those can be summed up by helping others and not seeing one as to be better than others, regardless of any social economic, education, race or religious background. To put it plainly, we are all equal, we just play different rolls. I hope my girls pick up on this. I try to live it, not perfectly all the time, but I do try and work to get better. I guess its an on going process.
As part of that process I started going to an early morning bible study at my church. I know you just fainted, yes I go to church. I’ve always avoided this study called men fraternity because I never really liked how many at different churches act. The whole idea being around a bunch of judgmental guys was not appealing. Plus work always provided a way out with my schedule. This year the work schedule was no longer the crutch so I went.
What I found is that most were not the judgmental kind, but the kind who want to help in a real and meaningful way. The coffee is good too. The time is real straight forward, and is about being a better father and husband. Its not over pouring with religiosity, but real life stuff, good old gory details  Being accountable, not overbearing and hot tempered. Our study leader, a regular guy like me, has said some thought provoking things. I will not go into detail, but it takes a lot to get my attention. Plus, the coffee is good.
Here is another, you guessed it, another (however) so here it is. However, I get up at 5 am to be there at 6 am, so I don’t see my girls at all that day. That frankly sucks, really sucks!
Today, I figured out a way to interact with them, let them know they’re never far from my thoughts. I wrote them a short letter. I told them I missed them and was really sorry. I told them we would have a fun time this weekend. I even drew funny pictures of us four. My wife said they really laughed hard. And to my surprise, they wrote me a letter back. All three signed it too. Even though I didn’t see them, I felt like I was a good dad today. Godspeed to you all, see you soon on WordPress. Below is a picture of letter they wrote back. I think I’ll frame it.
PS. I will tell them its not a good habit skip church, lol.

Happy Birthday to my Healthy Pancreas Kid.

My Healthy Pancreas Kids, as I call her, is 9 today. Happy Birthday! I love you so much and I hope you keep the title of healthy pancreas kid. Life has had it twists and turns and through it you have been a awesome big sister. You do watch after your younger sisters with diabetes. Not perfectly all the time, but who does. But you have smiled through it all. And that is worth a few stories on a blog post.

My first blog post was about you. The story inspired me to blog and it also inspired me to write a children’s book (not finished). It started as a scared little girl seeing her youngest sister getting diagnosed with the same life long chronic disease her other sister has. So there came the idea of  Dr Bear. Its her favorite stuffed animal. And when Rufus and Rufus stayed home when we went to the Friends For Life Conference, it was Dr Bear that made the trip to Florida.

We have a family tradition of just me taking the girls to do something fun on your birthday. Most likely she will pick a move and ice cream. I will be a fun time like it always is. But this time meters and diabetes supplies stay home. We will let Dr Bear watch over that while we are gone.

108

Godspeed

Tim
