Thus, I shall never speak of it again!

I wrote a really long post. Honestly, I did. However, I could not hit publish. I tried for over two years. What was it about? A third diagnosis. And this one hurts, bad.

It was the fall of 2022, and my oldest had gotten married. It was a perfect ceremony. I walked her down the aisle to a young man who started to cry when he saw his bride. What an amazing event. An event any dad will cherish forever.

Two weeks after they returned from their honeymoon, she had all the symptoms. You’d think a family that had two children with type 1 diabetes, had written many blog posts between them, and published many freelance articles on type 1 diabetes would know the signs and symptoms of type 1 diabetes.

We missed it, and she nearly died. Learn the signs and symptoms and share them often on social media, please! Four days in the hospital and two in the ICU. The doctors used the word miracle. She always likes to scare Dad. Thanks, kid!

Like her two sisters, she kicks diabetes in the butt and does well. Perhaps I might talk her into a second post on this blog and let her tell the story. It is too painful for this dad. Thus, I will never speak of it again (more like write about it on this blog).

Roll in your mind Bob Seger’s song Turn the Page for mental context. Since my girls are older and all out of high school, this blog will turn the page. I cannot tell stories like carrying one of them around the yard to look at stars like in “Little Star Gazer.” Because I cannot carry them unless it is an emergency.

Therefore, I will lend help. I do have over 16 years of experience in raising children with type 1 diabetes. I learned a thing or two, and I will share it. If you need help, I am here. Please reach out. My email is in the contact me under the picture of the typewriter.

My writing will shift. I have a screenplay about type 1 diabetes in the works. Draft number seven is nearly done and worked on it today. The idea behind the screenplay is to set the record straight on type 1 diabetes. Hopefully, it does just that. Thank you for visiting this blog since the summer of 2011. Yeah, it’s been a while. Take care, my friends.

Godspeed–yours truly Tim

I am a diabetes dad too.

  1. Tim, I’m so sorry to hear of her diagnosis. I’m glad she made it through the scare in the hospital. She’s got a rockstar crew of a family to stand beside her as she wraps her head around this.

Thanks Scott! It was a scary moment and it took a long time to post about it. Thanks for being a supporter of this blog from the very start. Hopefully, my wife and I can make it to a conference in the near future.
